Re: The South East Trident Tournament – 11/04/09

2009 sees the beginning of the annual South East Trident Tournament, and Shim’s Way Jujitsu Club invites you to its Dojo as the first hosts. This competition is open to both Juniors and Seniors of all the clubs. Here are the important details.

Venue: Shims Way Dojo, Dover Harbour Board Sports and Social Club, Port Zone, Whitfield, Dover, CT16 2HQ.
Date: Saturday 11th April 2009
Time: Competition 10am-4pm, Buffet and awards 4pm-6pm
Entry costs: Competitors £15, Spectators £5 (these costs include the buffet.)

This pack includes all the material for the competition including:
· Competition rules (taken from the BNMAA Malympex MMA Rules)

South East Trident Tournament Competition Rules



ATTIRE:
The following items of clothing are deemed to be suitable to be worn for this competition
Gi - No bare chests will be allowed. Graded belts area allowed.
Mandatory Safety Equipment - MMA Gloves.
Optional Safety Equipment - Gum Shield, Groin Guard.

DURATION:
Senior Bouts are 2 rounds of 2minutes duration.
If the score is a draw after 2 rounds a further 2minute round will be fought.
If the match is still even a fourth round of 1 minute will be fought. The referee will decide the winner at the end of this fourth round.
Junior Bouts for 6- 14 year olds are 2 rounds of 1 1/2 minutes (90secs) duration. The fight time for 15 – 17 years olds is the same as the senior bouts.

WAYS TO WIN:
You can win a match by:
1. Forcing your opponent to submit (to tap-out), or to quit.
2. The referee stopping the match or disqualifying your opponent.

SENIOR CLASSES (Male and Female)

 Under 65kg
 Under 75kg
 Under 85kg
 Under 95kg
 Over 95kg
 Veterans - Over 40 years old (open weight)


JUNIOR CLASSES (Male and Female)

 6 - 8 years
 9 -11 years
 12 -14 years
 15 -17 years


RULES:
1. All contests start from standing position
2. All matches are light-contact.
3. The referee can warn or disqualify any competitor for disobeying the rules.
4. The referee can stop the match at any point.
5. The referee’s instructions must be adhered to and his or her decisions are final.
6. Safety equipment (gloves, groin protector, gum shield) must remain properly attached to the body. The referee can pause the action for required adjustment of any safety equipment.
7. A fighter is classed as ‘grounded’ if any part of their body, except for the soles of the feet, comes into contact with the mat.
8. Fighters must remain within the fighting area. Failure to do so could result in a warning for standing fighters or a standing re-start for grounded fighters.
9. The referee can stand grounded fighters if there is a prolonged ‘lack of action’ on the ground.
10. Trainers or corners must keep clear of the mats.
11. All competitors are expected to behave in a ‘sportsman-like’ manner.
12. Abuse of the referee, judges or other officials by competitors, corners or supporters may lead to the disqualification of the competitor.
13. Any racial abuse will result in the disqualification of the competitor and his/her team
14. No oils (including Vaseline) may be applied to any part of the body.
15. All competitors must possess a current and valid insurance/licence which covers them for light contact fighting.

LEGAL TECHNIQUES: ALL STRIKES ARE TO BE LIGHT CONTACT ONLY

 Punching and kicking to legal target areas i.e. the torso
 Guillotine
 Arm Bar
 Key Lock
 Knee Bar
 Strangles
 Chokes

All legal techniques are to be squeezed on not wrenched on. Any technique applied in a dangerous manner will lead to disqualification.

ILLEGAL TECHNIQUES:
1. No hair-pulling, biting, eye gouging, head-butting, ear pulling or fish-hooking.
2. No strikes permitted above shoulder level.
3. No elbow strikes permitted.
4. No Knee strikes
5. No manipulation of small joints (fingers, toes).
6. No striking directly to joints.
7. No holding of gloves or other safety equipment.
8. No heel-hooking or any other technique that places a twisting motion on the ankle or knee joint.
9. No pulling of clothing permitted except to opponents wearing GI’s.
10. No striking directly to spine.
11. No groin strikes permitted.
12. Striking not permitted on the floor
13. Directly attacking the nose is not permitted.
14. Any technique which results in, or is liable to result in, your opponent being dropped directly on to his/her head.
15. Throat strikes of any kind, including without limitation, grabbing the trachea or clavicle.
16. Clawing, pinching or twisting the flesh.
17. Kicking to the kidney with the heel.
18. Throwing the competitor out of the fighting area.
19. No spinning strikes
20. No neck cranks
21. No landing your full body weight on your opponent
22. No slamming from guard

COMPETITOR EXCLUSIONS:
In the interest of maintaining safety and fairness within amateur competition, competitors who have engaged in 'professional' Mixed-Martial Arts bouts within the last twelve months will not be permitted to compete in this amateur competition. This competition is about skill, not brute force. Excessive force will not be tolerated.
