SENIOR INSTRUCTOR

SEMPEI MALCOM HAZEL of Way of Ronin Ju-Jitsu club,

SEMPEI NIKKI J PATTERSON

1st Dan – Go shin Ryu Ju Jitsu

I have been training at our club since July 2004 and have worked my way up through the grades. I took my coaching exam in 2005 when I was orange belt and sent off to criminal records bureau to be verified to be able to work with children. Having gained my purple belt in July 2006 I took my instructors exam so I could help run the club and take the class with another black belt present if my dad was away on business. At the same time I also did my health and safety and child protection exams passing them all with distinction. I have done 2 courses in brithai and have got a 2nd kyu grade from them. In October 2007 having got my brown belt I became assistant instructor with my own membership to the BNMA enabling me to teach by myself which was a real achievement and a real privilege to be asked to pass on my knowledge of jujitsu to our students. Finally in October 2007 I took my black belt with a lot of hard work and dedication to learn I passed it and am now a full instructor.

Outside of martial arts in Feb 2007 I became a police officer and my martial arts has made me feel much more confident and aware of what situations I could face on the street at work or in my social life. For me ju-jitsu teaches people to defend themselves rather than attacking and its about making sure the students that come to our class know how to avoid being a victim, by the way that they conduct themselves on the street and should they ever be confronted then they have a better chance of survival.

I get a great deal of satisfaction from teaching and passing on my knowledge to our students and watching them progress through the grades and seeing them develop I also enjoy learning from the other students who attend who have studied different styles.

CLUB EXAMINER

SEMPEI KELLY SAXBY

Kelly is a second dan black belt, she had a horse riding accident when she was younger and broke her back and achieved her second dan in a wheel chair.

EXTERNAL BLACK BELT ASSESSORS

SENSEI STEVE PINFOLD of Shims Way Ju-Jitsu, Dover. The name Shim's Way was taken by Sensei Steve Pinfold from his instructor Mark Shimwell (6th Dan) when Sensei Shimwell moved away from the area in July 1999. Sensei Shimwell taught us traditional Japanese Jujitsu as well as Small Circle Jujitsu. The syllabus now taught at Shim's Way Jujitsu are those moves passed down by Sensei Shimwell have now been modified to increase the proficiency and effectiveness of the style. Jujitsu is a pure self defense art, therefore students are taught to restrain, immobilise, and control their attacker in many different ways, rather than to harm an attacker. In other words, how to control the situation rather than become the victim. Jujitsu teaches close quarter defense techniques such as joint locks, chokes, throws, holds and grappling. However it also includes strikes (in particular striking to Atemi points of the body), kicks and blocks. Jujitsu will give you efficient movement and numerous techniques to enable you to counter attackers http://www.shimsway-jujitsu.co.uk/
