TEACHING SYLLABUS

We have reviewed the content of our teaching syllabus and have decided to make a few improvements. In summary, we have divided the syllabus into smaller more manageable 'chunk's, added additional belt colours, increased focus on Basic Throwing techniques for Intermediates and Adults and deleted the Kata of Strikes. Revisions to the grading time periods are explained below, details of each Syllabus and Belt Colours are shown on the attachments.

JUNIORS

Mon (17.15-18.30) - 5 years old to around 8/10 (depending upon size).
Now 12 belts with first awarded belt being 'White/Red Stripe' progressing up to 'Purple/White Stripe'. Revision reduces techniques juniors have to learn in three month period between gradings and it is hoped that all juniors will be able to grade at each grading as opposed to 'not being ready'. We are also continuing the ‘tabbed’ grading approach to provide motivation recognising that juniors must be able to demonstrate a reasonable level of technique delivery to achieve full pass. Juniors who start training at age 5 with continuous training should progress to 'Purple/White Stripe' belt when old enough to move into the Intermediate class. Junior syllabus excludes basic throwing techniques (over shoulder/sacifice) and weapons.

INTERMEDIATES

Mon (18.45–20.30), Wed (16.30–18.00), Sun (10.30–12.30) - 8/10 years old (depending upon size) through to around 15/16 years old.
Now 16 belts with first awarded belt being 'Red/White' progressing up to 'Black'. The six months period between 'Green' belt and above belts remains but and appropriate coloured belt with white stripe can be attained at the three month interval. Syllabus includes defending against strangles and edged weapons (higher belt grades) but excludes deploying strangles. It is desirable that 'Black' belt designate students complete and pass (with assistance from Instructors) the written externally marked MASTARR Coaching exam to achieve 'Black belt. Students who start training at age 8 with continuous training should progress to 'Black' belt by the age of 12.

ADULT

Sun (10.30 - 12.30), Thurs (20.00 – 21.30).
Now 12 belts with first awarded belt continuing to be 'Red' progressing up to 'Black'. Introduction of coloured belt with white stripe beyond green at three month interval is the same as intermediate. It is desired that 'Blue' belt designate students complete and pass (with assistance from Instructors) the written externally marked MASTARR Coaching exam and 'Black' belt designate students complete and pass the written MASTARR Instructors exam.

Students having progressed to the next training group will be expected to learn all techniques required for their belt grade in the new training group prior to further progression. Intermediate 'Black' belts will be required to learn and demonstrate all additional techniques contained in the Adult syllabus to be awarded their Adult 'Black' belt.

Attendance

You are reminded that you need to have attained approximate 70% attendance since prior grading in order to be eligible to grade at the next grading panel. Technique application will only improve by continuous practice and repetition of technique
